From back-to-back Champions League triumphs to a season in the doldrums; how quickly life has changed at Real Madrid.
The current La Liga champions had enjoyed a successful 18 months under Zinedine Zidane.
But this campaign has seen them lurch from one bad result to another, leaving them 10 points adrift of league leaders and bitter rivals Barcelona.
Tensions reached boiling point last weekend when Real drew with city neighbours Atletico Madrid.
According to Diario Gol, the Bernabeu dressing room is divided into two groups; Cristiano Ronaldo’s and the Spaniards’.
Captain Sergio Ramos has been acting as go-between in a bid to calm the situation.
But even he has reportedly had enough – and he faced up to the Portuguese superstar.
Ronaldo is unhappy with the level of inexperience in the Real Madrid squad and has alienated his younger teammates by demanding he be treated like a superstar at all times.
Dani Ceballos, 21, who joined from Real Betis in the summer, feels particularly uncomfortable around Ronaldo, such is his capacity to explode in anger.
Ramos has attempted to calm the situation but Ronaldo has reportedly already given up on retaining the La Liga title and will instead focus only on the Champions League.
Real can secure their place in the last 16 tonight when they take on APOEL Nicosia, but Zidane’s men are still smarting from the defeat by Tottenham a fortnight ago.
The other group – composed of Real’s Spanish contingent – are also unhappy with Ronaldo.
Isco and Marco Asensio are among those who have become disillusioned with the team’s star man.
With his future up in the air, Ronaldo’s departure next summer could be what is needed to restore calm.
Until then, Zidane has a fight on his hands to prevent his side falling apart.
